NEWBERRY COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING
MISSION STATEMENT
Newberry County Council on Aging is a private, non‑profit, charitable organization established in 1970 to provide necessary services for Newberry County Older Adults that will allow them to gracefully age‑in‑place. The mission of NCCOA is to holistically enhance the quality of life for Newberry County Senior Citizens through a comprehensive focal point service delivery system.
HOURS
NCCOA's Administrative Office is open Monday‑Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for all Newberry County Residents.
SERVICES
Home Delivered Meals –
Shannon Longshore,
Community Service Director
Hot and nutritionally balanced meals delivered to frail, homebound seniors, Monday through Friday by dedicated volunteers throughout the cities of Newberry and Whitmire. Frozen meals are delivered once weekly to outlying county areas.
Home Care-
Donna Perry, RN, Home Care Director
Certified Home Care Aides provide assistance with light housekeeping tasks, shopping, meal planning, and non‑medical personal care to frail, chronically ill or disabled older individuals.
Senior Centers
A Senior Center is a place where seniors can participate daily in various crafts, games and activities. A Senior Center also provides social support, health screening, nutritious noon meals to persons 6O years of age or older. NCCOA has three Senior Center locations:

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) – Dot Miskelly, RSVP Director - RSVP volunteers serve through nonprofit, private and public community organizations. RSVP is opened‑to anyone 55 years or older who is committed to helping others through volunteerism.
Adult Day Health Care-
Betsy Chapman, RN, ADHC Director
Adult Day Health Care is offered five (5) days per week during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Specialized areas offered in this program will be Alzheimers Disease and related dementias, developmental disabilities and short term respite.
Telephone Reassurance
Project Near, a cooperative effort between NCCOA's RSVP program and the Newberry County Sheriff's Department, provides daily telephone calls to frail elders who live alone.
Information and Referral
Information dissemination to and referrals made for older adults concerning services designed to meet their individual needs.
Legal Services
Legal Aid provided to Newberry County Seniors through a joint collaboration of NCCOA staff and the Columbia Urban League.
Medical Transportation –
Stephanie Lake
NCCOA provides non‑emergency medical transportation for Medicaid eligible clients through a federally funded program, Title XIX. Transportation must be arranged through the local Department of Social Services three (3) days prior to participant’s medical appointment.
